systemic antibiotic therapy in periodontics

چکیده
systemic antibiotics in conjunction with scaling and root planing (srp), can offer an additional benefi t over srp alone in the treatment of periodontitis, in terms of clinical attachment loss (cal) and pocket depth change, and reduced risk of additional cal loss. however, antibiotics are not innocuous drugs. their use should be justifi ed on the basis of a clearly established need and should not be substituted for adequate local treatment. the aim of this review is to discuss the rationale, proper selection, dosage and duration for antibiotic therapy so as to optimize the usefulness of drug therapy. key words: periodontics, periodontitis, scaling and root planing, systemic antibiotic therapy

Ozone therapy in periodontics
Gingival and Periodontal diseases represent a major concern both in dentistry and medicine. The majority of the contributing factors and causes in the etiology of these diseases are reduced or treated with ozone in all its application forms (gas, water, oil). The beneficial biological effects of ozone, its anti-microbial activity, oxidation of bio-molecules precursors and microbial toxins impli...

The oral cavity is colonized by a large number and highly diversified communities of micro-organisms. Bacterial biofilm present on tooth or root surface is a major cause of gingivitis and periodontitis. Chemical antimicrobial agents are widely used in prophylactic and therapeutic regimens for dental plaque related diseases, which are among the most common human infections. As these agents are d...

Background The concept of using antibiotics to treat Scleroderma stems from research done initially by Thomas M Brown, MD at the National Institutes of Health, Johns Hopkins and the Rockefeller Institute. Brown used antibiotic therapy to treat a variety of autoimmune diseases based on the theory that arthritic diseases, including Scleroderma, are caused by mycoplasma or bacterial infections. My...

The oral cavity appears as an open ecosystem, with a dynamic balance between the entrances of microorganisms, colonization modalities, and host defenses aimed to their removal. Gingival and Periodontal diseases represent a major concern both in dentistry and medicine. The oral biofilm formation and development, and the inside selection of specific microorganisms have been correlated with the mo...
متن کاملPhotodynamic Therapy in Periodontics: An Innovative Therapy with Dynamic Rays
Periodontal disease is a multifactorial disease associated with destruction of supporting periodontal tissues of the tooth caused by certain periodontopathogenic species of bacteria or their toxic products by means of a biofilm formation. The conventional methods to treat periodontal diseases are the mechanical removal of the biofilm and adjunctive use of antibacterial disinfectants or various ...
